American Girl

I find many moments I want to document my life with a snapshot.
This day was one of those.
Nothing eventful, out of the norm, or particularly spectacular happened.
It was just an average yet wonderful day.
I didn't dress up in any fancy manner, but I felt so at home
in the knit layers on a cold crisp day.
I saw a friend from out of town and we hit up the art gallery.
I was given a precious acorn pendant by an artist I admire.
I spend the late evening unwinding with wine and good company.
It was just a splendid day,
and I felt it should be preserved.~

Halloween 2014

I may complain about how the way they put Christmas stuff out before
Halloween, but I couldn't resist doing the leg lamp from
A Christmas Story as my costume this year.

It served me well and brought me to my second win in a row
for the Uptowner costume contest.
The costume was completely homemade,
thanks to a ton of help from my neighbor Dave,
and even included a working light.

I hope to go for the third win next year.
Halloween is by far my favorite holiday,
and I hope you all had a spooktacular time this year~

It All Comes Around

Karma is a real thing.
While working at the coffee shop,
I helped a few customers, who were short a few cents,
by fishing out the remainder out of
my tip jar.

I always believe it comes back around.
Sure enough, after complimenting
my friend John on his tie,
he rush out and returned with
some of the most delightful vintage ties
I had ever see!

~Yes, those are real feathers on that tie.~
He told me they were for my fiancé to wear
so that we could look classy for a night out.

Shortly after that,
another regular, Curt walked in
and showed me the most incredible pieces of turquoise
only to tell me that they were a gift.

But wait, there's more.
Not pictured is a book of Renoir postcards
to send to friends and family.
This was a gift from my dear friend Don.

I am so very fortunate to have such wonderful
friends and customers surround me
in my life.

Receiving these material items wasn't karma's
way of showing how it all balances out,
it's showing that if you are kind enough to put
another person in the forefront of your thoughts,
maybe someone else will do the same.

It all comes around~

Carry On

Andy and I are still emotionally exhausted
from the loss of Grandma Hannabelle.
We celebrated her life with
friends and family,
and began to heal.

Looking through pictures
of her younger years made me
admire her grace in a whole new way.

She was a talented artist as much
as she was a hollywood beauty.

Just look at this stunning still from her wedding day.

I received one of her handkerchiefs
as a keepsake.
I will forever cherish it,
and through it,
Hannabelle will still be
apart of our wedding day~

Fresh

If I were to create a religion about how to live a happy life,
it would be based around oversized sweaters.

This time of year brings a swell of joy to my chest,
and it has done well to inspire many pretties from the studio.
Autumnal tones, and visceral lines
are filling the designs in the pages of my notebook.

I thought I'd share one of my finished creations.
It's easy to see that the ring was much inspired
by the outfit I wore and the mood of the day.
Stay tuned for a post
about the ear studs
that have been in the works.

Go grab yourself something
warm to drink, and breathe in
the scent of a changing season~

This guy is available for purchase.
Email for details if interested.

A Somber Start

After a restless night and a full days work,
Andy and I suffered a loss in our family.
We managed to make the best of what we were given,
and smiled through most of day.
I can't help but linger
on the thought of mortality,
and with however many years I am to have,
I'm so glad I get to spend the remaining with him.

Moondays

Here's a curve ball for you.
I love Mondays.
Garfield would be ashamed,
but let me explain.
Mondays, one of my few days off,
which I still spend filled with things to do.
Mondays, I get to work along side my fellow creatives in the studio.
Mondays, I get to unwind with yoga at six.
Mondays, the day that says here I come weekend.
Prepare yourself!

4th

I hope you all had a lovely Fourth of July.
Sorry for the delay in posting this my lovelies~
sparklers, celebrate, fireworks, fourth of july, america, murica,

Have the elder races halted?
Do they droop and end their lesson, wearied, over there beyond the seas?
We take up the task eternal, and the burden, and the lesson, Pioneers! O' pioneers!

Over the holiday break,
I visited my hometown and was delighted to find
they opened up a micro-roastery.

Mad Goat Coffee was a treat.
It's always a warming feeling seeing your hometown
grow in many new ways.
This discovery only
added to the joy of a hometown visit~

Cleaning Nostalgia

lights, string lights, home sweet home, cross stitch
As I prepare the house for it's blog premiere,
I discover a phenomenon I dubbed 'cleaning nostalgia'.

The haphazard way a picture frame hangs,
always slightly off.
The wine stain from a night of tipsy hysterical laughter with friends,
hidden behind an autumn only to be forgotten until now.

The collected dust hidden behind a knick-knack
that got forgotten in the clutter of organization.

I always found dust to be oddly romantic.
It gathers with the passage of time,
and you can clearly see
when things have been disturbed from their dusty rest.

It's all too easy to get wrapped up
in thoughts of passing time,
and the great memories the past holds~

Tyrant

There is a tyrant that lives within me.
Her touch makes my skin crawl,
so I retreat within myself.
She has turned many a friend into a rival.
She has left me sleepless, wrapped up in my own head.
She fills me with self doubt, anger, hatred,
and remorse.
No matter how I try to rid myself of her,
she finds her way back to me like a desperate lover.
But offers no love in return.
She is so bound to me, that it is even written in the stars.
Her name.
Jealousy~

It's in the country where I find my happieness most easily.
There is a closeness to nature that works it's way into daily life when you go
outside the city.
The wide spaces where man and animal alike can stretch their legs, their wings,
and breath a sigh of relief.~
